100 Schools and reaching over 25,000 children on
Merseyside over the last five years.

Robin Baynes Rachael Fleming from New Start and David Graham
meet the winners of the Mind Competition

The ‘Natural High’ School Programme has been tremendously successful over the past 7 years, visiting almost 3,000 schools and seeing over 1,000,000 children across the UK.

New Start in partnership with Liverpool Heartbeat* and Rotary Clubs across Merseyside, have fund raised and worked tirelessly to bring this programme to school children throughout our city for the last 5 years, reaching over 100 schools and 25,000 children in Merseyside.
The programme is a unique interactive presentation that works closely with many different organisations promoting healthy lifestyles, and is aimed at years 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 in primary and secondary schools encompassing ages 8 – 13.
The aims of the presentation are:
to help young people build their confidence and self-esteem when faced with difficult choices;
to raise awareness of the dangers that surround illegal drugs, crime and anti-social behaviour in a fun exciting, interactive and informative way;
to inspire all individuals to use their talents to the best of their ability to get a Natural High rather than the destructive highs from anti-social behaviour;
to encourage young people to look at life in a positive way and think about their own choices carefully;
to encourage and inspire young people to set and achieve life goals with perseverance and hard work;
to be a good citizen and care about their friends, family, school and local community;
to encourage thought about the consequences of anti-social behaviour; and
to educate for life and promote sources of help and advice.
New Start’s role has included the development of materials at our organisation’s computer suite, and schedule planning and co-ordination of performances at schools across Merseyside.
New Start are currently working in partnership with Kensington Regeneration and Liverpool’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit to further develop this programme to ensure it reaches the eight primary schools in the Kensington area.
